Calf Muscles

The calf is made up of the gastrocnemius, which is the slightly higher muscle, and the soleus which is deeper and lower. If these muscles get too tight it can make them prone to muscle strains, restrict ankle mobility and predispose to injuries such as Achilles tendinitis.

Foam rolling is an excellent way to maintain calf flexibility, improve ankle range of movement and speed up muscular recovery after exercise. Having strong, but flexible calf muscles is really important for performance, muscular endurance and injury prevention, especially in sports like running and cycling.
